I have a confession to make, one that is sure to make any hairstylist cringe.
It has been almost seven months since I have had my hair coloured and over a year (yikes!) since I have had it cut.
Needless to say, it was time. My ends were fried, my colour was brassy and my roots… well, let’s not even go there. But after my last disappointing experience, I was hesitant to let anyone touch my hair.
Granted, I cheaped out last time and learned a valuable lesson: Life is too short to have bad hair. Therefore, when I was looking for a new salon/ hairstylist this time around, I did my research. From Instagram to Yelp reviews, blog posts and more, I sifted through all the valuable information only the internet can give you and landed on BRUSH salon.
Situated in Gastown and founded by partners and Master Stylists, Calvyn Cass and Michael Gibson, BRUSH exudes style and has an air of exclusivity despite being open (and affordable) to the masses. You can’t help but feel like a member of the “cool kids” when you step inside. The atmosphere is relaxed and the energy is palpable with clients walking through the door exuding nervous excitement and leaving with the newfound confidence only a kick-ass cut/ colour can give you.
Here is an overview of my experience at BRUSH Salon:
Who was my hairdresser?
I had senior stylist Sadè attend to my locks. Beautiful, talented and such a sweetheart.. what more could you ask for?!
What did I ask for?
The week before my appointment I had a consultation with Sadè to discuss what I was looking for and so she could see my mess of a mane. My ask was pretty simple, I just wanted to be the best “low- maintenance blonde” I could be.
How long did it take?
A really long time! But I have come to expect that with my hair, so I wasn’t surprised (I just wish I had brought more snacks). In total, I was there for about five and a half hours.
How much was it?
The total came to $294.00 (not including tip) which was right on budget. For the price, I received: a full head of highlights, toner, a Olaplex treatment and a cut (more like a trim). Check out the complete price list here.
Am I happy?
I am so happy with my hair and the entire experience. Sadè is a rockstar and the salon has a very relaxed vibe. Plus, they have a great magazine selection and everyone was very friendly and talented (I can say that because I witnessed about fifteen different people coming and going with new do’s during my extended stay).
Would I go back?
Definitely! The best cut and colour I have had in my three+ years in Vancouver.
Have you ever tried BRUSH Salon? What was your experience like?
