Let’s Catch Up

Santorini Sunset Cruise

Talk about not keeping you in the loop! I haven’t posted a Let’s Catch Up since June!

If you haven’t been following along on Twitter or Instagram where I keep my location and photos up-to-date, you have probably had a hard time getting to sleep at night thinking “Where has Sarah been?” and, “What could she possibly be doing?”

Well, Let’s Catch Up!

Where am I?

I mentioned in my last Let’s Catch Up that I was heading to Greece at the end of July and that’s exactly where I am. More specifically, I am staying in a little town called Piso Livadi on the island of Paros. Andy and I have rented an adorable and affordable apartment at CARMEL Studio Apartments and could not be more impressed with the accommodations and our host (Stella) and her staff.

The apartment is right across from the sandy beach of Logaras and offers a variety of restaurants and shops within walking distance. It is the perfect spot to wind down after a busy week on Santorini, and before we head into Athens for the weekend.

Where have I been?

On June 28th, Andy, Kerri (our friend who was visiting from Vancouver) and I flew from Paris to Heraklion, Crete where we spent a week exploring the island. I cannot say enough about the hospitality we experienced in Crete, so much so, I will be discussing it in more detail on Thursday so stay tuned for that post!

From Crete we took a high speed ferry, Hellenic Seaways to be exact, from Heraklion to Santorini to meet up with our friends Peter, Amanda and their adorable son Pierson (or Panda and Little P as we refer to them as). They decided to celebrate Amanda’s thirtieth birthday in Santorini and we felt so blessed they decided to invite us to be a part of it. We had an AMAZING time, but Santorini is also destined for its own post coming soon.

Where am I going?

It’s hard to say, and I have mixed feeling about it, but we’re on our one week countdown of heading back to Canada.

From Paros, we head to Athens on Thursday where we meet up with friends of ours for a two-day rendezvous before hopping on our flight to Toronto on Monday.

Where did the time go?!

I feel blessed to have been able to go on this adventure of a lifetime with my love, and even though it will be an adjustment to head home, I am looking forward to reuniting with my friends and family who I have missed dearly and have been nothing but supportive of our journey.

One last thing…

We have been in Greece since the end of June and unless you have been living under a rock, you would be aware that Greece and their debt or the “bailout” has been headline news for weeks.

One of the questions that we have been asked repeatedly be friends and family is, what is it like in Greece? To be honest, it’s great! Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the Greeks have been fearful about the outcome of Eurozone talks but they have not allowed their worries to hang a shadow over their everyday life or create anxiety for those vacationing in this beautiful country.

We have experienced some of the best hospitality, eaten some of the best meals, and met some truly kind and resilient people. The issues Greece is facing are tremendous and far too deep for this blog, but I just wanted to mention that every minute of our time in Greece has been nothing but pleasant.

Do you remember a time that flew by seemingly faster than any other?

You are such an incredible writer Sarah. I could not have described our time in Greece anywhere close to how beautifully you have.
We miss you back in Canada, but hope you enjoy/savour your remaining time on your island retreat.
