After six months of travelling, it won’t come as a surprise that I didn’t have the funds to go out and buy a work wardrobe for my new corporate gig. Therefore, over the past few weeks I have been taking a special interest in what I already have and how I can combine pieces into work appropriate outfits.
This look was styled around the plaid midi skirt I picked up at Forever 21 last season (which they are also carrying this season). Personally, I feel that midi skirts are perfect for the office because they are modest enough for a conservative office and can be styled more playfully for a relaxed office environment.
Everything else I have on I’ve had for forever. My faux leather jacket I bought at Winners about three years ago, and my turtleneck dates back to…well, longer than I want to admit.
The point is; my immediate thought when I was hired for my new job was “I have nothing to wear,” but I did, and I do. After cleaning out my closet I soon realized that I actually have a lot of pieces that can transition into a business casual environment and honestly, I’ve found re-visioning my wardrobe and working with what I have be really rewarding and frankly, a lot of fun.
I know now that although I don’t have the closet of my dreams, I can definitely work with what I have.

But, don’t get me wrong, I’m really looking forward to heading out and finding some new pieces to integrate into my wardrobe, I just need a few more pay-checks in the bank before that happens.
What is your best piece of advice for reinventing your wardrobe?
Love this outfit! Midi skirts are awesome for the office, i’m wearing one today with a blouse, an over sized cardigan, black tights and ankle boots with a chunky heel.
You look wonderful. Is Andy your photographer?
