‘Tis the Season: Christmas Events in Vancouver

I distinctly remember growing up in our household we were not allowed to bring out the Christmas decorations until after December 7th… my little brother’s birthday.

My mom would try her best to hide the Sears Wishbook (Canadian 90’s kids – you know what I’m talking about) from us and forbid decorations (with the exception of outdoor Christmas lights) until my brother had blown out the candles on his birthday cake.

Honestly, looking back, it was a great Mother move on her part, but I could barely contain my excitement that Christmas was right around the corner!

So, now that I have my own household and can make my own rules (don’t worry, you’ll still be getting a Birthday present Lil’ Bro) I can have Christmas begin whenever I want! Therefore, let the festivities begin!

Here are some Christmas 2015 events in Vancouver worth checking out:

Christmas at Hycroft

The University Women’s Club of Vancouver presents Christmas at Hycroft, a 40 year long tradition from Thursday, November 19 to Sunday, November 22. Explore the beautiful Edwardian mansion and delight in the entertainment, vendors, and delicious treats waiting for you inside!

Candy Town in Yaletown

Downtown Vancouver’s only free winter festival is happening this weekend on November 21 from 12 to 7pm. The Yaletown Business Improvement Association transforms Mainland into a winter wonderland featuring fun for all ages. Head down and get into the Christmas spirit!

Vancouver Christmas Market

The Official Grand Opening of the Vancouver Christmas Market takes place November 21, 2015 at 11:00am. The authentic German-inspired Christmas Market is the perfect atmosphere to mix and mingle with friends and family and take in a wide variety of cultural activities and entertainment. Grab a glass of mulled wine from the vendors and enjoy the sights.

Bright Nights in Stanley Park

From Thursday, November 26, 2015 to Saturday, January 2, 2016 head down to Stanley Park to experience the lights and breathtaking displays of Bright Lights. Take a ride on the Bright Lights Christmas Train and help support the BC Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund. This is one of my favourite Christmas events in Vancouver!

Festival of Lights at VanDusen Botanical Garden

From December 1 to 31, 2015, experience the magic of VanDusen Botanical Garden and over one million Christmas lights! Take a stroll through interactive and themed areas and enjoy the Dancing Lights show on Livingstone Lake. This spectacular light show has been named one of Canada’s top 10 Christmas Light Shows!

Rogers Santa Claus Parade

On Sunday, December 6, 2015 at 1:00pm over 300 000 spectators will watch Santa and friends parade through the streets of downtown Vancouver. Expect to see marching bands, choirs belting out holiday songs, massive floats depicting Christmas scenes and much more!
